WASHINGTON— Today, House Veterans' Affairs Committee Ranking Member Mark Takano issued the following statement on the 100th day of President Trump’s second term.
“In just the first 100 days of President Trump’s second term he has broken his promises to our nation’s heroes. ?Instead of improving VA care and benefits, he has gutted the workforce that serves veterans, stripped away critical protection, and slashed programs like VASP that help veterans keep a roof over their heads. Instead of delivering services, VA has incited chaos and uncertainty.
The Administration is more focused on dismantling government institutions that serve veterans than addressing the urgent needs of those who fought for us. While billionaires celebrate tax breaks, veterans wait in longer lines for the care they earned.
Veterans deserve a President who honors their service through action.?That is the American way. We can and must do better for our veterans. They defended our freedoms—now who in this Administration is defending them? Let’s get one thing straight: President Trump isn’t defending our veterans; he’s treating veterans like collateral damage in his quest to defend the wallets of his billionaire friends. ?
The first 100 days reveal exactly where this President’s priorities lie and it's not with our veterans or military families. Veterans deserve better. America deserves better. We must stand up and fight for those who fought for us,”?said Ranking Member Takano.
